Erick Erickson Unwittingly Demonstrates How His Religion Prevents Reasoned Discussion

Erick Erickson again unwittingly demonstrates how his religion is harmful to reasoned discussion.

Erick says, “putting someone in the Senate with that hanging over him is of questionable prudence that would all but eliminate the GOP’s ability to be taken seriously on the matter of harassment, assault, and indecent behavior. Moore in public office, with that level of ineptitude in his ability to defend himself right now would just be used by others to harm both Christians and conservatives in politics. (emphasis mine.)

The fact Erick uses the words “Christians” in this context is critical.

This should not be about Christians at all.  This should be about picking the best Senator, Doug Jones the Democrats or Roy Moore, a Republican.  For the last few weeks, Erick has supported Moore.  Only, now when the weight of evidence is impossible to ignore, has Erick come out against Moore.  He will not support the Democrat.

My question to Moore supporters is why is Moore better than Jones?

misses the point

I don’t blame Alabama voters for feeling the need to stick with Roy Moore. But I do have to start wondering about national conservatives. This is not about what the other side would do, but what conservatives should do. At a basic level, if Roy Moore won’t defend himself sufficiently, there is no reason for the rest of us to. At a deeper level, the allegations are disturbing and credible and putting someone in the Senate with that hanging over him is of questionable prudence that would all but eliminate the GOP’s ability to be taken seriously on the matter of harassment, assault, and indecent behavior. Moore in public office, with that level of ineptitude in his ability to defend himself right now would just be used by others to harm both Christians and conservatives in politics.

I don’t blame Roy Moore’s voters for sticking with him. And I still think it is notable that the biggest pile and rush to judgment has come from establishment Republicans who have always hated Moore. But I have contended all along that the accusers were credible. Now we have […]

David Horowitz: Sure, Roy Moore Is a Child Molester, But Vote for Him Anyway!

This one tweet encapsulates everything that is wrong with our politics today: In my view Moore is guilty as accused. But 1) it happened 30 years ago, & 2) he can’t be removed from the ballot, & 3) electing a Dem strengthens a party that defends these criminals: Obama, […]

Erick Erickson Unwittingly Points to the Religious Bias Tearing America Apart

Erick Erickson Unwittingly Points to the Religious Bias Tearing America Apart

In a rambling post about the latest Trump change in direction, Erick Erickson points to the precise religious belief tearing our already great nation apart.

Notice in the following paragraph he calls the GOP stupid and the Libs “evil.”

Using the newly compressed legislative calendar as an excuse, they will undoubtedly cut several bad deals with Democrats and lump them all together in a couple of pieces of legislation. Remember, there are two parties in Washington, the stupid party and the evil party. Occasionally they get together and do something that is both stupid and evil and the press heralds it as a bipartisan accomplishment.

We are on the road to stupid and evil more expeditiously because of what President Trump just did.

Notice the use of the term “evil.”  According to orthodox conservatism Liberalism is “Evil!”  It is a simple concept for religious Conservatives to grasp.  People that want to give your money to other people without your permission are evil.  It is simple.  And they hear this message from their Sunday pulpits.

Heritage Foundation Fundraising Letter Unwittingly Exposes the Fundamental Fallacy of Conservatism!

Notice in the Heritage Foundation fundraising letter below that they unwittingly expose the fundamental fallacy of Conservatism.

Notice they point out the mutually exclusive principles of “free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom” on one hand and a “strong national defense” on the other hand.  I could be wrong but I think free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom are mutually exclusive with “strong national defense.

Free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom are Anti-Fascist.  Strong national defense is Pro-Fascist.  Fascism and Anti-Fascism are mutually exclusive world views.

I also find it ironic that Conservatives need to ask for money to promote these conservative principles.  I would think if the principles are so great, they should promote themselves.  If the principles are so great, you shouldn’t need money to promote them.

Former Navy SEAL Craig ‘Sawman’ Sawyer warns of ‘gruesome massacre’ if Trump removed from office

Former Navy SEAL Craig ‘Sawman’ Sawyer warns of ‘gruesome massacre’ if Trump removed from office

This is very scary.  But not surprising.

The Russians will fund these guys and incite violence.

In a Facebook post published Friday, Craig “Sawman” Sawyer, a Marine veteran, former Navy SEAL, sniper, combat instructor and the owner of Tactical Insider, warned of a “gruesome massacre” if President Trump is removed from office.

“I’m hearing serious rumblings of a hostile, illegal coup against our democratically elected President by seditious, deep-state subversives funded by Soros & other globalists. Very disturbing,” he wrote, adding:

Patriots, this would be nothing less than an act of war against the American people. It would be the removal of our boldest defender & last possibility of maintaining our protective Constitution. Under the boot of globalists, life as we know it, would immediately decline to the model that suits the globalist interest – Marxist/Socialist/Communist. They get complete control, you get zero. Freedom, Gone! Liberty, Gone! This agenda is evil and simply cannot be allowed, at ANY cost.

Like ALL military, law enforcement and government officials, I took an oath to defend our Constitution against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. By abandoning the rule of law and conducting a coup against the President & policies WE THE PEOPLE elected, they have made themselves enemies of the United States.

After observing that all patriots, regardless of position, have a duty to protect the Constitution, Sawyer minced no words detailing what he believes would happen to those involved in Trump’s removal and he explained why:  Anti-American subversives involved in ANY WAY in an unconstitutional coup against our President will be run down and executed immediately by the world’s most supreme warriors. There will be nowhere to run to, nowhere to hide, no mercy, no sense of humor. Harsh examples will be made. My prediction is it will be a gruesome massacre. Why? Because one side in this conflict has 8 Trillion bullets & the other side doesn’t know which bathroom to use.

And, he added, it won’t take very long: “It will likely only take a few hours. Lessons will be learned. History will take note. Order restored.”

And, he added, it won’t take very long: “It will likely only take a few hours. Lessons will be learned. History will take note. Order restored.”

“Patriots, We The American People stand united as one, against ALL enemies,” he said. “We are peace-loving people who abide by the rule of law. Prepare yourselves in case this ridiculous insanity actually gets played out and the rule of law goes out the window under their gross miscarriage of our legal process. Shaking my head…”

As we reported Friday, actor James Woods warned that a civil war would break out if Democrats like Maxine Waters — who has made it clear she is willing to sacrifice national security to hurt Trump — succeed in removing Donald Trump from office.

Sadly, Democrats aren’t the only ones involved in what many now see as a coup d’etat against Trump. Republicans like Lindsey Graham and John McCain are doing their level best to sabotage Trump.

It should be clear that any attempt to remove Trump from office would result in unrest the likes of which we have not seen in years.

As of this writing, Saywer’s post, which starts with a call to prayer for the nation and the president, has been shared over 400 times.

Why So Many Can Believe Conservatives Will Make America Great Again

Why So Many Can Believe Conservatives Will Make America Great Again

Everyday more information comes across my desk about Donald Trump and his family.

As that information crosses my desk, I have been trying to understand why so many people not only accept Trump, but truly and sincerely believe he is doing exactly what they elected him to do. And I have a question: What has happened to “American values?”

Thinking back on your childhood, what do your remember as your foundational beliefs? I remember family and religious values that stressed support of community: feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, and welcoming the stranger and the poor.

I naively believed that these values were universal. Today I look in horror at the values expressed by Trump supporters.  As a prime example, look at the current health care proposals. Reduce benefits to children, the poor, the elderly, the disabled, and the mentally ill by cutting Medicaid funding nearly in half? What are we thinking?

Trying to understand what to me are new and disturbing views, I’ve been helped by the writings of George Lakoff, a retired professor of cognitive science and linguistics. Lakoff writes that people’s preferred styles of government often reflect the ways they were raised and the values they learned.

Some follow a “strict father” approach, believing that helping the needy reduces their self-reliance and rewards laziness, irresponsibility, and lack of discipline. In contrast, there’s the “nurturant parent” style, which aligns with progressive government approaches. People raised with this style believe that some citizens, despite their best efforts, need and deserve help from the community to survive and succeed.

Thinking specifically about cuts to healthcare, I do not believe people get sick simply because it is free.  I know of no cancer patient that got cancer because someone else was paying for the treatment.  I know of no dialysis patient that choses to go through dialysis two or three times a week simple because they are on medicare and it is essentially free.

On the contrary.  A friend of mine works in a nursing home.  She, recently enrolled a 103-year-old family member into the home.  Her comment to me was, “I can now understand why staff stressed what would happen when she ran out of funds. Had she needed more support before her death, she’d have joined the 61 percent of the frail elderly in nursing homes covered by Medicaid.”

Are these working or elderly patients irresponsible? I don’t think most of these afflictions are the result of “lifestyle choices,” but instead are genetic tendencies that require support and care.

I understand the Strict Father Narrative.  It is not my view, but I understand it.

The problem is Trump Supporters don’t understand my narrative.  They call me names like “Snowflake.”

As we move forward with this new reality, I hope we can look for a middle way built on respect for both narratives.
